History of the 1979 Volkswagen Bus

The 1979 Volkswagen Bus belongs to the later years of the Type 2 generation that ran through the 1970s. These vans earned a lasting place in American culture as symbols of road trips and casual travel during that decade. The Westfalia camper version added pop-top and interior features that matched the era’s interest in mobile living.

Body style, manual transmission, and gasoline engine reflect standard specifications for the model year. The three-door layout and van configuration kept the vehicle practical for both daily use and longer outings. Its design language remains recognizable to audiences today when a production needs authentic 1970s transportation.

California Picture Car Rental Uses

This bus fits period scenes set in the late 1970s or early 1980s when crews need accurate street texture. It can serve as a character’s daily driver, a parked element in an establishing shot, or simple background dressing that reinforces time and place. The vintage California aesthetic also works for lifestyle segments or branded content that references the state’s car culture.

Still photography and music video shoots can place the bus in desert, coastal, or urban settings common across Southern California. Corporate activations and events already use the vehicle, so productions gain a unit familiar with client-facing work. Its drivable condition expands options beyond static placement when a scene requires controlled movement.
